Singapore B30 premium widens while Rotterdam's narrows

What it means for buyers

Compare B30 and VLSFO by hub - Singapore's biofuel premium widened this week, Rotterdam's narrowed.

Singapore's B30-VLSFO blend pulled further away from conventional VLSFO over the past week, according to Engine. The biofuel premium widened because the blend rose faster than conventional VLSFO in the Asian hub.

Rotterdam moved the other way. Conventional VLSFO there climbed more than B30-VLSFO, so the biofuel premium over conventional narrowed sharply. Higher Dutch low-carbon fuel ticket values and softer feedstock costs helped keep biofuel prices from rising in step with conventional fuel.

Singapore's B30-VLSFO also sits below Hong Kong's blend on a like-for-like view this week. B100 indications moved higher in Singapore on the week, while Rotterdam's B100 eased.

For buyers weighing FuelEU or other carbon rules, the gap between B30 and conventional VLSFO is not the same in every hub. Singapore currently shows a wider biofuel premium than Rotterdam, so stem comparisons should be done port by port rather than assuming one region's economics apply elsewhere.
